In School Programs
We are committed to reaching the next generation and inspire them to become responsible pet owners. Our humane educational outreach team visits all schools on island public and private at all grade levels encouraging students to show kindness to all living creatures.
Youth Intern Program
AWC operates an after school, weekend and summer youth program for teens. Students fulfill school mandated community service requirements and gain vital on-the-job experience.
In addition to our animal care program, AWC has partnered with Central High’s Complex nursing program to involve students in our on site spay/neuter surgeries to learn hands on about being a surgical tech.
Contests
The “Kindness is Contagious” poster contest and awards ceremony is an annual event open to all grade levels and held in conjunction with Be Kind to Animals Week. An essay contest on the important topic of pet overpopulation highlights Spay Day USA.
Adult Programs
Educational outreach is conducted on the adult level in the form of various community outreach events. Adult staff works to educate the local community about Territory leash laws, dog licensing requirements, the mandated anti-cruelty act and the pet overpopulation crises on St. Croix. Contact us to have a representative of AWC speak about animal issues in the Territory to your group.
