OUR MISSION

Provide and promote the humane treatment of animals through humane education, animal protection, and community service. Our duty is to the orphaned, abused, neglected, and unwanted animals of St. Croix, US Virgin Islands.

WHO WE SERVE

SINCE 1973, we have cared for 2,000-3,000 homeless animals yearly through our life-saving programs and services. Year after year, we have committed to being the only OPEN-ADMISSIONS shelter, never turning away an animal in need. In helping animals, we help the families of St. Croix maintain the human-animal bond, regardless of income. 

HOW WE ARE FUNDED

WE receive 8% of our funding through the VI Government, which only funds the care of 52 animals per quarter. That money is used up within the first two-weeks of the quarter. The remaining 92% is funded by YOU, the generous community of St Croix: through donations, your use  of our community clinic and by shopping at our flea market.

WE NEED A NEW HOME

OUR original shelter was destroyed by Hurricane Maria in 2017 & we have been in temporary facilities since then. We are launching a Capital Campaign in 2023 in order to move to our new permanent home in Castle Coakley where we will be able to increase our lifesaving abilities and  fully engage the St Croix community in animal welfare. 

HOW CAN WE HELP YOU? 

ADOPT

We want Crucian pets to stay in Crucian homes! Come find your new dog or cat at the PET PLACE, next to FoodTown. We always have puppies, older dogs, kittens and older cats: someone to suit every household. Fill out our adoption application online or just stop in! You can also buy leashes, collars, beds, toys and carriers at Pet Place to make your new pet comfortable and styling!

VETERINARY SERVICES

We operate a community clinic that allows us to offer low-cost veterinary medical services from wellness to sick treatments to orthopedic surgeries. We do not have a financial qualification requirement to utilize our services. Significant financial assistance may be available on a case-by-case basis for families in need. Appointments are preferred. Call 340-778-1651. Walk-ins are welcome, but there may be a wait

LOST YOUR PET?

Please contact us as soon as possible if your pet has gone missing. You can browse the LOST PETS section of our website, or call us. We also encourage you to post your lost pet on Facebook. Lost animals brought into us are put on a 5-day stray hold. On day 6, they become the property of the St Croix Animal Welfare Center. Animals with a microchip are held for 10 business days.

Capital Campaign: Going Home

In 2017, Hurricane Maria destroyed our shelter at Clifton Hill. We received a FEMA grant to rebuild, however, that grant alone is not sufficient to fully rebuild. We are launching a Capital Campaign to raise the remainder of the money it will take to move us to our new, permanent home on the tranquil 5.5 acre Castle Coakley property.
